Redundant
slipways, obsolete sheds and silos, chimneys with no outlets,
mysterious buildings and constructions with no apparent use, way
in - or out. Marcus Jefferies' sculptures are built to confound,
baffle and arouse wonder in the seemingly everyday. With the close
proximity of the gallery to the Bath Spa project and its failures
so far as a useful building, Marcus' work will add a skewed sense
of reality to the space. Made up of various constructions across
the entirety of the space, the work creates a small town of 'failed'
buildings. Each one is viewable on their own, but when grouped
together with other buildings, they converge as an unsettling
whole. |

A
female cast hopes to address the flaws in the contemporary art
exhibition formula. The white cubes framing device will be altered
with a soiled hand where one image is already meandering into
the next, the body’s stance is interrogated by unforeseen
cubby holes; your nose touches ceiling or wall. |

Is
an interactive architecture that involves the audience in a
communal activity through participating in the rotation of a
structure. It is made with wooden frames covered with layers
of muslin inspired also by traditional Japanese architecture
and the conceptual idea of 'Shinto'. It could also be envisaged
as a collective layrinth, or a wheel of life that revolves repetitively
upon which we come to play...The inner circle remains static,
the outer circle rotates driven by the audience who is free
to move around and explore the space interacting with structure
and the other participants encountered during the revolution.
The structure functions as a performance space creating a different
interaction between performer and audience, these boundaries
are fused and the audience becomes the motor driving the stage. |

“Place”
at Walcot Chapel.
The
Sculpture Girls present another eclectic and intriguing mix
of sculpture in their own inimitable way. Their recent work
is around the theme of “Place.” Holly’s sculpture
is about being squashed by rocks, Regan’s work deals with
the phenomenology of perception of being in the landscape, Sophie’s
place is the Music-Room, and Libby, who is moving place, will
create some work in response to that. A dynamic and quirky show
not to be missed. |
